The campaign

4 acts · 48 weeks
01

Foundations

Programming · Math · Tools

Learn to program in C#, build the math you’ll lean on forever, and make your first games from scratch.

02

Core Game Programming

Engine · Patterns · Two games

Move into a real engine, ship two complete games, and learn the patterns that keep code from collapsing.

03

Systems & Simulation

3D math · Physics · Graphics · AI

Go under the hood: 3D math, a physics engine of your own, shaders, and game AI.

04

Design & Capstone

Game design · A jam · Ship it

Learn what makes games good, do a jam, then design and ship an original game end to end.

On cost

Roughly 80% free

The plan is roughly 80% free. The backbone resources — Microsoft’s C# path, CS50, Game Programming Patterns, The Nature of Code, The Book of Shaders, LearnOpenGL, Red Blob Games, 3Blue1Brown, Freya Holmér — are all free. The main paid items are the GameDev.tv Unity courses (Udemy, updated to Unity 6, frequently ~$10–20 on sale) and a handful of canonical books (Schell’s Art of Game Design, Millington’s AI for Games and physics book). You could do the entire thing for under ~$100 if you lean on the free alternatives.

Week 1 starts whenever you do.
